We are actively engaged in creating a "sustainable" environment in the
form of a completely self-sufficient "HOMESTEAD"! We've moved beyond
the frequent "hands-on" activities
and workshops in areas such as:
Soap making (using easily available animal fat and lye or wood ashes)
Shoe making (learning to walk and still feel the ground under us)
Firewood processing (cutting down dead or diseased trees, chopping, splitting & stacking
the wood for use)
Preparation of indigenous soil for Organic Gardening
Food storage and preservation for off-season consumption
Clothing manufacture (not just purchasing cloth and sewing it into an
outfit)
Animal husbandry and behavior (understand a particular animal's behavior,
habitat and needs, as well as using harvestable parts, such as hair,
meat, etc.)
… to the PRACTICAL implementation and total utilization of thise skills.
These are not designed or presented to be weekend activities that you discuss with your friends
about someday integrating into your lifestyle. These things cannot be
fully learned from books, videos, or lectures. This information does no good
if it lives only in your head! It is now time
to demonstrate the problem-solving for integration of this information and to provide a framework for
possibilities within each process. It needs to be a physical experience.
These activities MUST become "body knowledge" and not be performed "in a vacuum"!
We are (re-)learning rural skills and being fully "present" in
Nature. Being "part" of Nature, not just being "in" Nature!
Join Us!
We seek to connect with like-minded individuals whose skills and experience
enhance and compliment each other. We believe that each person's needs
and abilities are unique. It is that uniqueness to which we seek to enhance.
Therefore, weavers, food canners and preservationists, shelter (esp.
Cob structure) builders, Taoists, and others are encouraged to join this
group.
It's not necessary to create community. Community
happens, naturally. It's a Personal Choice! Are you INTERESTED??
